Microsoft Office Binary Formats – now freely available to all!

This afternoon we published the specs for the office binary document formats and placed them under the Microsoft Open Specification Promise. This means that anyone can now freely use these formats for any reason without any concerns over intellectual property rights.

Enjoy!

  • While fact itself is more than welcome, it seems that Microsoft didn't open format in all details - at least I didn't find any details about VBA Project format/placement in t Word and Excel binary documents. The most comprehensive information I found in the Excel 97-2007 Binary File Format (.xls) Specification - it states that "The PivotTable data cache storage and VBA PROJECT storage are not covered in this document". So where is a document(s) this parts are covered in?
