In Microsoft CRM, there are multiple ways to connect with the customers using E-mails.
Now the questions are – what’s the difference and what are the scenarios where one might be better than the other…
The table below lists some of the differences for these approaches.
Direct Mail
Mail Merge
Quick Campaign
Campaign activity
Client
Web
Outlook
Templates
Uses templates from the CRM Settings area
Uses templates stored in the Microsoft Word “Mail Merge” templates library
No Templates for Web client, Mail merge templates for the E-mail via mail merge feature
Response tracking
Tracked as an activity in the account/contact that the e-mail was sent to. Entire e-mail is stored.
Tracked as an activity in the account/contact that the e-mail was sent to. The e-mail that was sent is NOT stored.
Tracked as a campaign response. Can provide an ability for the recipients to unsubscribe. For Web E-mail the e-mail body is tracked. For Mail merge only the action of sending an e-mail is recorded
ROI
No out-of-box ROI tracking
ROI could be tracked based on the cost of the campaign, cost of the campaign activities. Out-of-box report provided for campaign performance and campaign comparison

Based on the differences, some sample scenarios that may be useful for one option over the other are:
It would be great to understand how you use these options and what you’d like to see changed.

Can u tell me how to send attachments with Bulk email in CRM. How do we go about customizing CRM with SDK?
Thanks,
Nikhila
This is a big issue for 2 clients...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
You may want to look at the Workflow Send Email action, as this allows for an attachment. I know it's not ideal but it may work for you.
I'm perplexed by something that is happening when we send marketing campaigns out. I can track in crm individual emails but when I distribute the activities in a campaign via email merge no tracking tokens are being input and there are no emails being created in the activity. Any ideas what is wrong?
Can you tell me why the system automatically flags the Direction of a mail merge activity in a campaign as incoming when the sender is the user in the company and the receiver is the contact/account in the mail list?
The radio button option is greyed out in the activity when the mail merge is created so there is not opportunity to adjust it as the closure of the activity is system generated.
Please advise.
I want to create an ad-hoc list of Contacts, and then send the same email message, personalized to each of those contacts.
I can create the e-mail template, and insert the data fields.
I can create the Marketing List, that contains the desired contacts.
But how do I execute a mail merge using my email Template against that Marketing List?
(I can merge a template against a List generated via the Advanced Find tool, but that Action type does not appear to be available when using a Marketing List.)
Can you pleaese tell me what the options are?

I am guessing that many of you are experiencing these issues because CRM systems are built for sales to manage one-to-one relationships, not marketing execution. You should check out Vtrenz iMarketing Automation, www.vtrenz.com. iMarketing Automation allows marketers to plan, automate and track all marketing activites and integration with Microsoft Dynamic CRM provides a seamless flow of information between sales and marketing.
I understand how to send campaigns using email templates within the settings area, but how can I create my own branded templates or customized templates for an enewsletter for example?
<begin rant> What Microsoft fails to understand here is that CRM users need to track *everything*. Whether email originates from Marketing or Sales, whether it is a email invitation to a webinar or a newsletter, we need to see metrics on everyting to see how well our efforts are performing. Microsoft Mail Merge is only a workaround at best. We need html based email templates that can be easily edited, emailed out, and tracked, regardless of who sends it and to how many. I'm talking opens, click throughs, conversions, the works! When will this functionality be included in the product?! </end rant>

I am looking to send around 10,000 emails as a part of my email campaign. I am using sugar crm. But the crm uses my current email service provider to send the emails. This has a restriction of 400 email per hour. How can i send out all these emails in one go without having to spend an enormous sum?
After hearing from numerous clients having the same need and not finding any stable 3rd party solutions, we implemented this solution ourselves for a customer ready to discard MS CRM.
The client simply wanted the ability to send around 2 000 e-mails including attachments. The upload consisted of a 600KB file (which included the 100kb PDF).
I wouldn't be majorly surprised if MS eventually release a bulk mail service, but until then, have a look.

How can we send bulk emails with attachments in MS dynamics CRM 4.0? Other than Workflow option, do we have an ad on for it?
