The Microsoft Dynamics CRM Sustained Engineering team will release Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Update Rollup 8 on Thursday, December 17, 2009.

General Details about Update Rollup 8

  • Update Rollup 8 is cumulative. However, the Update Rollup 8 CRM Client and Data Migration Client packages require Update Rollup 7 to be installed. For all other CRM components you do not need to install any previous Update Rollups prior to Update Rollup 8
  • The Update Rollup 8 download contains updates for the 40 supported Language Packs. Prior to installing the Update Rollup 8 Language pack you must install the original Language pack.
    • If you have Language Packs installed, you should
      1. Download the Update Rollup 8 Language Pack
      2. Install the Update Rollup 8 Language Pack
      3. De-provision the Language Pack
      4. Re-provision the Language Pack
  • Information about how to avoid reboots when installing the CRM Outlook Client can be found in the Update Rollup 4 blog posting.
  • The Update Rollup 8 Client can be deployed before the server is upgraded to Update Rollup 8.

Update Rollup 8 adds support for Exchange 2010. However, the Update Rollup 8 Rule Deployment Wizard does not yet support Exchange 2010. We are working to add that support in future Update Rollups.

  • The KB for UR8 says that although the email router officially supports Exchange 2010 there is a MAPI problem for the rules wizard.

    So, in short, will CRM for Outlook users work or not with Exch 2010?

  • We are performing a brand new install... Do we install as per the standard ISO and then apply the rollup, or will the latest Dynamics CRM 4.0 ISO include (or automatically download) the latest rollup?

  • I don't fully understand the part about language packs. Can language packs be installed after UR 8 is installed? What if a customer decides to add a new langauge in the future?

  • Auto Updates: FYI

    FYI - When using CRM 4.0 with Windows 7, installing Update Rollup 8 (after 7 is installed of course...) you have to run the "Update" as Administrator...

    Meaning that you have to right click "Update" from within Programs/Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 folder and choose to "Run as Administrator" to get the update to run properly or it won't install.  (it will say that it installed then ask you to reboot, after the reboot the Update has NOT been installed... unless you run as administrator)

  • Why is it that the administrator of this site will not allow questions to be posted or statements regarding the issues with Rollup 8?

  • The administrator rights issue has not been resolved as previously stated by RU7.  Working with Microsoft Support to resolve.  Will post again when resolution is known.

  • Local Admin Rights: Auto Update issue - Not resolved yet.

    Microsoft Supports current stand:

    This issue is being investigated and we anticipate having a solution object identified by the third week of February (tentatively 2/17)

    The solution object may be one of the following:

    1) Proposed Workaround

    2) Hotfix Request

    3) Commitment to addressing the issue in subsequent versions of CRM with no Hotfix against the current version of CRM.
