Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online has released November 2009 Service update. One of the key delivered features was the enhanced Import Data Wizard. You are probably already familiar with importing data into Microsoft Dynamics CRM using various file types and the power of customization during import. In this blog I will dive deep into import ZIP functionality of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online November 2009 release.
ZIP folder is a perfect option to use when you want to import more than 1 file in single attempt in Microsoft Dynamics CRM. All latest Windows operating systems provide option of compressing multiple files in one ZIP folder. Alternatively any ZIP software can also be used to compress the data files in ZIP format. Simply ZIP all the data files that you want to import into Microsoft Dynamics CRM, launch import wizard, upload this zip file and proceed as explained here.
Using a ZIP folder to import data has lots of merits over importing those data files individually. Apart from importing multiple files in parallel, it also gives power to import cross-referenced files and attachments. Here are the merits and structural requirements of ZIP file for import in MSCRM.

I am always glad to hear that improvements keep coming out with regards to data import.
The reason I'm happy about data import improvements coming out is that data import is 1 of the 3 most difficult parts I find in any CRM project.
I find the 3 most difficult parts of any CRM project are always data migration, user acceptance of change (change management), and user adoption (closely tied to the change management).
Now, if only we could export CRM Online data to a dynamic table and get those GUID's in order to re-import the data with enrichment!
Add that GUID export and data enrichment to the ZIP functionality talked about above and I'm a happy camper.
Sure Ron,
Data enrichment via Data Import feature is on its way to CRM5 release.
