I am planning to hift to CRM 2011 from 4.0 and not sure if need to upgrade or migrate?
I have 2 queries for this:
4.0 is on 32 bit environment while 2011 will be on 64 bit, so will there be any impact in case I clone crm 4.0 to a new environment for CRM 2011?
My CRM 4.0 is on UR 6, do I need the latest UR 21 for this activity?
Any help will be highly appreciated.
We recommend the migration upgrade approach. Especially in your scenario where you are switching architectures. So, setup your new 64bit environment, install CRM 2011 and UR17, then import your CRM 4.0 database through CRM deployment manager. Please check out our upgrade best practices blog for more information and recommendations. blogs.msdn.com/.../10357892.aspx
You can upgrade directly from UR6 as we don't require a specific UR version for the upgrade from CRM 4.0.
