Notes:

Microsoft Dynamics CRM Stack Technology Compatibility: Do you want to know if certain Service Packs or versions of a Microsoft product or technology are supported with Dynamics CRM? Now we have all of this in one “living" Knowledge Base article: the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Compatibility List.  For example, you can use this KB to determine the latest Microsoft SQL Server major version and Service Pack that is supported. Microsoft will list new products like Internet Explorer 10 and Windows 8 as "TBD" until testing is complete; generally near General Availability (GA) of that product.

Mismatched Update Rollup versions within a Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 deployment: In a scenario where you may be running many client workstations with Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 for Microsoft Office Outlook, a common question is whether it is supported to run mismatched versions. For example, where Update Rollup 5 has been installed on the CRM Server but the Outlook clients are still on Update Rollup 1, or where Update Rollup 1 is on the CRM server but due to updates available to the Outlook client you have decided to install Update Rollup 6 on the clients without installing Update Rollup 4 on the server.

The general rule of thumb is to try to keep the versions in sync as much as possible. However, it is permissible (though not recommended as a long-term solution) to run mismatched Update Rollup versions on Outlook client and server, as Microsoft does do some testing of such combinations.

However, regarding the other Update Rollups (for example Rollups for the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Email Router or Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Reporting Extensions), it is not supported nor recommended to run mismatched versions. A best practice is to update these components at the same time you update your CRM Server. Do the best you can to keep these Update Rollup versions in sync.

For more information, see the blog posting "User experience while accessing CRM 2011 application servers while Update Rollups are being applied"

Silent Update Rollup installs: Please review Jon Strand's blog posting "CRM 2011: Silently Installing Update Rollups" which provides details on installing CRM Outlook client update rollups "silently" in order to limit end-user interruption

  • @xAirrick

Good idea.  Done.  Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming!  Actually, the Q2 2012 Service Release is scheduled to be released via UR9, not UR8.  Just FYI.

  • Hi,

We are planning for roll up 21 in prod server. The roll up comes in many exe's

    CRMv4.0-KB975995-i386-Client-ENU.exe

    CRMv4.0-KB975995-i386-DMClient-ENU.exe

    CRMv4.0-KB975995-i386-Router-ENU.exe

    CRMv4.0-KB975995-i386-Server-ENU.exe

    CRMv4.0-KB975995-i386-SRS-ENU.exe

    CRMv4.0-KB975995-i386-MUI-ENU.exe.

Can you please tell me which are the exe's that goes to server and and which goes to client pc's?

  • @Karun: CRMv4.0-KB975995-i386-Server-ENU.exe is installed on your server.  It will check your CONFIG_DB and do some database updates, usually updated indexes for in-the-box entities, stored procedures, etc. then update your server binaries.

CRMv4.0-KB975995-i386-Client-ENU.exe goes on your client machines if you're using the Client for Microsoft Outlook.  It is not needed on machines that aren't using the Outlook client - those that are accessing your CRM servers via Internet Explorer only.

  • Nice to see a combined results of all the update rollups. Great !.

  • Hi how is all of that related to online version? We are now on 5.0.9688.1561

  • @Nosecam,  My CRM Online instance was also stuck on an circa Rollup 5 for several weeks but  I have just checked and I am now running on build .2174 (Rollup 7 plus a bit) from the Ireland data centre so it will be worth checking to see if your instance has now been upgraded also.

  • Why did the projected release date for Q2 2012 Service Release go away?

  • Because all Service Releases are quality-driven, Bill, not date-driven, so projected ship dates can change and therefore be misleading.  Look for press releases and/or blogs from the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Product Group regarding release dates of upcoming Service Releases. I’ll update this blog when they are released, of course.

    Greg Nichols

    Microsoft Corporation

  • When oh when will Q2 be released?  Now that it's July 1, the moniker "Q2" doesn't seem to apply anymore.  A status update, even if not a firm date but something like "We're 90% done" or "Here's what's left for us to do." would be helpful for us business owners to do some planning, even if the dates have to shift later on.

Greg, you mentioned to look for press releases or blogs form the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Product Group.  Do you have the link to where those are posted?  I have googled for it but can't seem to find anything specific.

Thanks for keeping us and the world informed!

  • Jason, I don't have visibility into the "status" of the Q2 release, but would recommend that you look to www.microsoft.com/.../default.aspx for Press Releases, and the Microsoft Dynamics Team blog (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/crm/) for the blog postings.  I'd keep also an eye on  crm.dynamics.com/.../roadmap, and feel free to use your browser of choice to look more broadly.

    And you're quite welcome!

    Greg Nichols

    Microsoft Corporation

  • Greg, your update on July 9 contradicts Dennis Michalis' blog post on July 6.

According to Dennis, the Q2 2012 Service Update will ship on July 19 and include SQL Server 2012 support. But your article states that nothing will ship in July and SQL Server 2012 support is already there.

Dennis also mentions industry templates and data center certifications are part of the Q2 2012 service update, but these are not code releases and are already available.

Can you clairify what's going on?

  • @ CRM addict

Sure. What Dennis is saying, IMO, is that new code is being released in CRM Oniine to support SQL 2012 for online customers.  This SQL 2012 compatibility code was released to on-premise customers via Update Rollup 6 (via the the Microsoft Download Center and Microsoft Update) in January, 2012,

I disagree with your statement that industry templates and data center certifications "are not code releases".  There are industry templates that are, I believe, code releases and part of the Q2 2012 service release that are not yet available unless you had access to TAP bits, etc.  As I mention above, this code will now be released via the Q4 2011 Service Release.  Also, new code is likely being released to support the new data center certifications.

You may want to ask Dennis via his blog posting for further clarification.

  • Hi Greg, our CRM Online in EMEA is still at version 5.0.9690.2174 (UR7+). Nothing happened (or seemed to have happened) on 19th July. I was expecting a version change to UR8+. Am I getting confused?

    Thanks

    Andre

  • @ Andre - I don't have much visibility into CRM Online servicing release dates, but I suspect one will be forthcoming in August.

    Greg Nichols

    Microsoft Corporation

  • Currently in my Organisation,Dynamics CRM Server 2011 was installed with rollup 7added to it, on our production environment for Sales team. Our primary objective is run the onpremise deployment  on Safai browser

My question is like would there be any alternative approach where we can satisfy the need apart from the R8 launch

Moreover when was it expected to release on global market(Multi browser support) i mean the approx date?

    Thanks in Advance!
