Interesting read.

I have a few follow up questions -

1. Is this specific to C# only? I am seeing the same behaviour with a large C++ project.

2.Also, wouldn't it be the case that as the code size increases, things might slow down a little?
I am attempting to include the boost libraries in my project. This does have a lot of C++ templates and any "analyzation" will probably be slower, but about 35M of this does not seem to be done. The one instance that I am waiting on it, overnight seems not to have dropped the CPU usage!

3. Is there a way for this to be turned off?

Analyzation is an MBA buzz word used heavily by MBAs who put "ization" at the end of many words. The favorite one used where I am working presently is "definitization".

Thanks for your interesting article; it sounds similar in spirit to VB's Background Compiler that's discussed in the upcoming MSDN magazine.

One thing though with my project is that when this happened the CPU usage was sustained for 5+ minutes, even when the IDE window was out of focus (I was researching something in IE). The solution was also not just opened; I opened it a few hours prior.

I also agree with Ian's comment that an indicator of some sort should be provided to let us know that the IDE is actually doing something, not just spinning.

Wherever you mention "analyzation", you should correct it to "analysis".
