Thanks for the clarification, Karen - didn't mean to draw the direct connection - I'll update the post. I wouldn't want folks to think I'm completely ignorant of geography outside the US... the fact is, I'm fairly ignorant of geography inside the US, too. :)

In case anyone else's eyes bugged out of their heads upon reading one of the items above: it is true that Edmonton is one of the first cities to use OGDI (and is a Canadian city), but the link to the Olympics app is for Vancouver, a marvelously different city altogether which also has a data catalogue at http://data.vancouver.ca and happened to host the Olympics in 2010.

Great tips! Thanks! I was wondering how to get started on this stuff with my sub-par salary. I assumed that I needed a paid account, even for testing, which has stalled my interest in even getting started. I didn't know that the SDK came with a dev fabric. I now plan to start testing this weekend!
