This is the first in a series of postings (I hope) of little glimpses into my life and my thoughts; for those that are curious of course. Too often, in my job, I think we focus on technology, when what really matters is the trust and the relationships that we form with each other through our careers. So blogging purists, forgive the non-technical interlude; for the rest, here's something that I just came across that I wanted to share with you all.
Certainly one of the influences in my earlier life was the "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". First, snippets that I heard as part of the most curious BBC radio series, and later, from my Dad's friend's vinyl record collection of the series (just in case you're thinking, I'm not that old, okay!), then as the BBC television series in the eighties. Later, as a teenager, I was profoundly influenced by Douglas Adam's books; quite mind boggling for the teenage mind, as you could well imagine. Unfortunately, I was not able to see Douglas Adams, the author, present to an audience before he passed away; he even came to my home town of Adelaide. I would have like to have met the man behind such a bizarre yet enticing creation.
So, fast forward to now, and I just came across this on Slashdot about a Hitchhiker's movie in the works. Gee, I don't know so much about that. It's kinda like digging up Seinfeld and then making a movie decades later. Things change. Could be awesome, but I can't help but feel a little apprehensive toward a project like this. Hitchhiker's will, for me, forever be a classic; maybe the movie could encourage a new generation to take a look at this body of work. I hope so; still apprehensive though.
