Thank you for all the feedback on "Performance tuning SQL Server 2005 (and other editions)". Honestly, you guys really made me smile. The most popular comment I received (and please guys, don't be shy about posting your comments publically - you'll be surprised about how many other people have exactly the same questions too) was along the lines of :-

"So if we can't touch Priority Boost or Max Worker Threads, then what can we touch?!".

Ok, ok, I hear you; fair comment. :-) I shouldn't have told you, "don't touch!", without telling you what you could touch. ;-)

So, I've got just the article for all you DBA's out there looking to troubleshoot performance problems in SQL Server 2005 (and 2000), ironicaly called:-

Troubleshoot Performance Problems in SQL Server 2005

You can also get it as a Word document as an offline reference that you can take with you. It covers the following fundamental areas really well; CPU bottlenecks, Memory bottlenecks, I/O bottlenecks, tempdb issues and, everyone's favourite, slow-running queries. Enjoy. It's a great reference. I hope this helps you get to the bottom of your performance issues.
