My friend Quentin Clark has posted a pair of updates to the WinFS project over on the team blog. A lot of what we learned about making a modern database development platform has made it's way into ADO.NET v.Next. We learned a lot about the needs of developers who aren't yet database programmers as well as developer communities who are experts. Personally, it's a bittersweet feeling not having a specific release vehicle called "WinFS" (which is the thing I came to SQL Server to work on). At heart, however, I think that we're going to do a better job bringing all of the innovations we had in that box to more customers in the new plan. At the end of the day, that's the name of the game.
