    OneNote 2007 SP2 - Now Available

While we were working on OneNote 2010 we also spent sometime improving the current version, OneNote 2007, and you will see this with service pack 2 (SP2) which is available on Tuesday 2009-04-28 in the morning (Pacific -8 GMT).  More details will be up on the Office Sustained Engineering blog and direct links will be available there.  However you should also see this update available via Microsoft Update.

For OneNote the key updates include:

    • Improved SharePoint sync
    • Fewer crashes
    • Security improvements
    • Fix for when you send an email from OneNote and the embedded files end up as images in Outlook instead of attached files (this bug really killed me)
    • Added support for Japanese OCR

Additionally for the whole Office suite we some great updates:

    • Outlook performance is greatly improved, you will really love this update just for this
    • Support for OpenDocument Format (ODF) so you can edit/save/open odt, odp, ods files in Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
    • Plus more!

I would encourage everyone to install this update as it will make your daily computing much better.

    Download Office 2007 SP2 now!

Also check out this Excel spreadsheet which shows all of the changes in this update: 2007 Office Service Pack 2 Changes.xlsx.

Microsoft Office 2010 – OneNote “14” is now Microsoft OneNote 2010

I am pleased to say that Microsoft has announced that Office “14” is now called Microsoft Office 2010 and therefore the next version of OneNote will be Microsoft OneNote 2010.

You can read the whole announcement here: Next Wave of Microsoft Office Products Will Redefine How People Work (gotta love marketing press releases).  Anyhow here are some fun parts:

PressPass: What are you announcing today?

Capossela: We’re announcing that Microsoft will begin releasing new versions of Office-related products this year. Exchange 2010 will be the first product in this lineup, entering beta for customers to download today. Exchange 2010 will become available in the second half of 2009. Office 2010 — including Office Web applications, SharePoint Server 2010, Visio 2010 and Project 2010 — will enter a technical preview in the third quarter of 2009 and will release to manufacturing in the first half of 2010.

Of course you can stay tuned to this blog for more details.  As we get closer to release I will be able to blog more and talk about what we are working on.  In the meantime I would search for “Office 2010” and I am sure you can get some leaked screenshots which might get you excited.

Microspotting - Like the paparazzi, but for geeks

Recently I have found myself reading a blog called Microspotting which is called “Like the paparazzi, but for geeks”.  I enjoy this blog because you can get to know the people who work at Microsoft better and learn how they got to where they are now.  But recently there has been perfect storm because:

    1. I know a bunch of people featured on the blog recently and it was cool to get know James, Latika, Abbott & Omar better.
    2. I saw Ariel on the bus to work and I went up and talked with her about her site.

I thought I would pass on the link to everyone and also hope to get my free “I am the Empire” t-shirt
