Your app should also be optimized for all input types, including touch.
Optimizing for touch is a good approach because the Windows 8 platform gives you mouse and pen events for free when you code and design for touch.
Designing for touch requires a lot of attention to detail on many different criteria. Consider all of these factors:

Touch interaction design
Windows 8 touch language
Target sizing
Visual feedback
Selection
