    Office Devcon and Open XML

Office Devcon starts this weekend in San Jose, and I'm really disappointed I won't be able to be there this year. I'll miss Bill Gates's keynote, all the great sessions on Office developer technologies, the OBA of the Year contest winner, and a chance to catch up with my friends Wouter Van Vugt , Erika Ehrli , Jean-Christophe Cimetiere, Eric White , Dennis Hamilton , Satish Reddy, Sanjay Kumar, Ted Pattison , Stephen Peront, Chris Strevel and many others. If you're planning to be there, be sure...

    Video discussion with Brian Jones

I had a chance last week to talk to Brian Jones about the proposed dispositions to the DIS 29500 comments. We discussed the thinking behind a few typical dispositions as well as the business case for custom XML support and other Open XML topics. The video is now live on the OpenXML page on YouTube. It's split into 4 parts: Part 1: How to deal with the comments Part 2: compatibility settings Part 3: custom XML schema support Part 4: Ecma TC45 dialog...

Respect for open standards? You decide

I was a bit surprised to see the news recently that Open Forum Europe is working with some large US-based technology vendors to put on an event in the same building as the upcoming BRM for DIS 29500, on the same dates as the BRM . An anti-BRM, if you will. This event has absolutely nothing to do with the standards process, and appears to have been hastily thrown together to coincide with the BRM. They've even sent emails to national bodies involved in the BRM, encouraging the BRM delegates to attend...

    Open XML links for 02-04-2008

Indexing DOCX files with Lucene in PHP. Maarten Balliauw has another great post on working with Open XML from PHP. This time he takes a look at how to use the Zend framework's PHP port of the Lucene indexing and search API. As always, Maarten provides very detailed explanations and full source code. Open XML video gallery on YouTube. A new page on YouTube will start aggregating video content for Open XML, including hands-on demos of various implementations, interviews, and other information. My...
