Jesper Lund Stocholm has posted the results of some tests that he participated in last fall, working with vendors including IBM, Microsoft and Novell to test interoperability of Open XML and ODF implementations. They used a set of sample documents provided by Danish public-sector organizations as the basis for the tests. Jesper's findings are listed in the...

Open XML SDK Class Diagram Explorer. Erika Ehrli has created a reference for Open XML developers that is also a great demo of the types of user interfaces that Silverlight enables. Note that if you want to compile the source code you'll need Visual Studio (Express Edition is fine). I downloaded the executable version and played around with it a bit...

    Alex Brown's research, AbiWord enhancements

In a recent blog post, Alex Brown looks at how well Office 2007 supports Open XML . As he explains, I was excited to receive from Murata Makoto a set of the RELAX NG schemas for the (post-BRM) revision of OOXML, and thought it would be interesting to validate some real-world content against them, to get a rough idea of how non-conformant the standardisation of 29500 had made MS Office 2007 . It's an interesting question. Office 2007 supported the ECMA-376 standard, but many changes were made...

    Open XML links for 04-17-2008

Like a few other people, I've been taking a break from blogging since the Open XML vote was final, to deal with an overflowing email inbox and a few other things. Here are some posts that I've found interesting in the last couple of weeks: SC34 plenary. The semi-annual SC34 meeting took place in Oslo last week, and it sounds like good progress was made on setting up the plans for future maintenance of IS29500. Brian Jones has an overview of what took place in the meeting, Alex Brown describes...
