Are you one of one of those individuals that upgrades before reading the documentation? I know I have been guilty of it. Now that I have wiped the look of shame off my face let me take the time to explain the upgrade process for Dynamics GP 2010 customers, including how to take advantage of the new data mart.
First, when you upgrade to Management Reporter 2012 RU3, don’t forget to go to File > Configure and add the data mart option. As mentioned in a previous blog, this is the recommended method of reporting for Dynamics GP 2010 customers going forward. Refer to the blog to see the few special circumstances when you may need to use the legacy provider for specific reports.
Here is how the upgrade process should look for Dynamics GP customers.
The data mart is the preferred method of reporting for Dynamics GP customers, but there will be a few changes that come along with it.
Once you have done this you are ready to start generating your reports against the data mart and begin the enhanced reporting experience.
In the appendix to the Integration Guide the following statement is made.
"Currency translation is not available for reports with data Mart integrations for Microsoft Dynamics GP"
If I understand this correclty, the Data Mart option can not be used for any reports where currency translation is required,. For organisations with operations across multiple countries and currencies this makes the data mart option a complete non-starter.
Keep in mind that you can set up both providers and then use the data mart for all reports that don't use a reporting currency. Then just use the legacy provider for the reports where you need currency translation.
We will be working to add currency translation to the data mart in a future release.
When will the regional localizations be available for roll up 3?
We are actively working on the regional localizations and are shooting for early in December.
"If you have reporting unit restrictions, you will also need to reselect those." So it wipes out ALL restrictions? Is there any way to save off a copy somehow or be able to re-import afterwards? I am working with a client who has nearly 300 companies so re-adding these manually is going to be an issue. Thanks.
It does not wipe them out. More than likely the company name or the dimension names with Analytical Accounting have changed, which means once the tree is updated you with this new information, you will need to reselect it in the row or column definition. The previous ones will still be there, but if they are referencing a different company or dimension name, you will need to reselect. This may or may not happen depending on the setup, but its worth noting in case one of those two things changes.
Just a quick note to let you know the regional installs are posted now. They are here: mbs.microsoft.com/.../MRlocalizations.htm
