    Microsoft Dynamics AX for Retail Classroom Training Available

    As you may know, Microsoft officially announced the worldwide availability of Microsoft Dynamics AX for Retail in early August. Now we have a great training opportunity for you to learn even more!

    This new course includes Hands-on experience and understanding of the retail industry and Microsoft Dynamcis AX for Retail Headquarters and Microsoft Dynamics AX for Retail POS. The training is suitable for implementation consultants, presales consultants, and developers.

    At The Partner Event this week, I had the chance to sync up with Andy Hafer, one of the primary brains behind Dynamic Communities. Lately, Andy and his team are gearing up for the User Group conferences taking place in mid to late October in Orlando, FL.     Announcing Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Internal Use Rights (IUR) Benefit Partner Briefing Guide

    As we announced back at Worldwide Partner Conference in Washington, D.C. in July, Microsoft is offering our partners access to Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online for internal use. Please review the detailed FAQ document found on PartnerSource for complete information. I've also provided he following excerpts from the guide.

    In our endeavors to support the Microsoft partner ecosystem in developing new customer relationships and driving revenue for their businesses with Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online, Microsoft is offering qualified partners up to 250 seats of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online for internal use. This benefit is also being introduced to support the new Gold and Silver competencies and the Cloud Essentials/Cloud Accelerate programs as part of the new Microsoft Partner Network (MPN) program to be launched October 2010.

    This MPN benefit will be available to eligible partners in the United States & Canada on October 29, 2010.

    The Partner Event 2010 - Day 3 Recap

    As the conference wrapped up today it was great to see many partners making the annual trip to Fargo to connect with each other, and reinforce their long term channel relationships.

    Overall, the event had a very strong group of ISV's in attendance as was apparent by the presenters, Mark Rockwell and Jesse Byam, who hosted my first session of the day focused on how to build better relationships between VAR’s and ISV’s. Mark shared his tips from an ISV perspective, while Jesse represented VAR’s. A lot of similar best practices were discussed among the attendees, including the fact that these relationships require a lot of nurturing.

    With lunch sandwiched in between, I attended a two-part session presented by Joe Rotella (great speaker, I always learn something new!) as he explained the five levers to control and grow your business – how 5 x 10% growth = 61% increase in profit. You may ask, how does that math figure out?! I don’t want to explain all of Joe’s tips, but by monitoring and increasing key metrics across marketing, sales, account management, project management, and accounting, you can achieve awesome increases in profit.

    Finally, The Partner Event wrapped up with some inspiration as three partners explained how they were able to adjust their lifestyles to break out of the norm either by re-locating to a remote topical location, or by volunteering to give something back to less fortunate individuals in a time of crisis or need.

    One of these days I'll find a way to clone myself, so I can make it to all of the additional sessions I miss out on. :-)

    The Partner Event 2010 - Day 2 Recap

    Due to some scheduling conflicts and previous commitments, I was only able to make it to the morning events and one afternoon session yesterday. Nonetheless, I found the content very interesting, and beneficial to my role at Microsoft as well as helpful with connecting partners to the latest and greatest Microsoft Dynamics programs, tools and resources.

    The day started with a keynote from the always enlightening Bonnie Robertson and Pam McGree sharing their insights into talent engagement. They provided an overview of their finding from a channel employment survey conducted this year, and compared the results to those from 3 years ago. As you can imagine, there were a few differences primarily driven by changes to the economy. Bonnie and Pam also discussed the shifts in workplace motivators experienced by Baby Boomers vs. Echo Boomers (Gen Y'ers). One of my key takeaways was that many younger workers are able to solve problems faster than ever before by leveraging technology to reach across forums, social networking sites, etc. to connect with others in similar roles. They don't need meeting after in-person meeting to solve an issue.

    Later in the day I was able to catch sessions from the very popular social media strategist, Joe Rotella, as he gave some great pointers on using LinkedIn and Twitter more effectively. Many of his concepts were ideal for partners that are looking to build company and brand awareness as well as useful for big company's like Microsoft.

    Unfortunately, I couldn't make the next round of sessions or the roundtable discussions, nor the party. If you attended any of these, be sure to share some feedback!

    The Partner Event 2010 - Day 1 Recap

    I'll spend the first part of this week with a couple of posts highlighting The Partner Event taking place in fabulous Fargo, ND. Since I'm a local guy, I may not be experiencing the entire event from an out-of-towner's perspective, but I'll try my best!

    The conference kicked off on Sunday afternoon at the Holiday Inn with many event sponsors delivering innovative information about their technologies and services. As you may know, many of the sponsors are ISV's so they are very creative and entertaining in the delivery of their presentations.

    Next, The Partner Event regular, Bonnie Robertson hit the stage to provide the opening session keynote. Bonnie covered 5 of the most important trends that partners should be aware of as they adapt:

    • Brand Blur - are people aware of what your company's focus is?
    • Business Model Reality - are the various new business models (e.g. SAAS) a fit for your organization?
    • Fluid Collaborative Networks - networking is about the relationship, not the technology.
    • Work Deflation - the challenge of having multiple generations in the workplace has become even more challenging.
    • ME, inc. - many people are seeking alternative employment models to focus better on their passions.

    Finally, the night capped off with the welcome reception at the Fargo Billiards & Gastopub. A few partners stopped by the Microsoft Dynamics Community booth which I helped manage, and we also got in a few games of pool while catching up with several attendees.
