About Ray Fleming and this Education blog

I'm Ray Fleming, the Industry Market Development Manager for Education in Microsoft Australia, and I've spent 25 years working within the education ICT industry.

When I moved to Australia in January 2011, I decided to start this Microsoft Education blog (which is why it also shows up in search engines as the 'Ray Fleming blog'), and write to cover news and opinions that relate to Microsoft's Education business in Australia (bear in mind this is my blog, so the opinions are my own, rather than being Microsoft's - especially if you think they're wrong!)

Previously I was the Education Marketing Manager for Microsoft UK. Much of my work involves bridging the gap between the technology industry and education – helping each side to better understand the other, and creating stories that help both sides to discuss the impact that ICT could have upon education in the future. In the past, I've been a prolific blogger in the UK, and columnist for the Times Education Supplement, a weekly national newspaper for education in the UK. I was chuffed when one of my professional blogs (the UK Schools blog) won Computer Weekly’s ‘Public Sector Blogger of the Year Award’. I've now handed that blog on to my replacement in the UK.

In the UK, I was a regular speaker at a range of educational conferences – focusing on the significance of ICT to learners and teachers, and the role it will play in the transforming education. And I'm open to invitations to speak at conferences here in Australia too.

In the last year, I've delivered keynotes a range of externally hosted events:

  • ERA4 Conference in Daisy Hill, Queensland
  • Oxford and Cambridge Universities' Annual IT Conference, Oxford
  • Oxfordshire Schools IT Conference, Oxford
  • FOTE '10 Conference at the University of London
  • Southampton College Annual Staff Conference, Southamton
  • SharePoint in Education Seminar, Warwickshire
  • Capita Children's Services Annual SIMS Conference, Nottingham
  • Dimension Data's 'Cost Saving in Schools' Seminar, Reading
  • European Electronique's Acadamies Briefing, London
  • Tribal's Innovative Schools Partnership Conference, London
  • FOTE '09 Conference at the University of London
