How often do you get an e-mail where somebody says "this is cool" and provides a link to a web site or a video? "Yea, yea, it’s probably cool but I’ve got work to do" is my usual response. However, the other day I noticed at the bottom of a "cool" e-mail that the link was titled Head Tracking for Desktop VR Displays using the Wii Remote . Having worked in a previous life on projects with head tracking...

I'm sitting in front of the TV waiting for the Daytona 500 race to start (the 'Superbowl' of Nascar racing) and root for #55 Michael Waltrip in the Toyota / Napa car. While waiting for the start I'm surfing the web and figure I'll drop in on some of the sites of our Windows Embedded Partners (WEPs) to see if anything new is going on. One of the WEPs I visited was AVNET when I stumbled across a podcast...

[ Update 2/11/09 – To date, .Net Framework 3.5 has *not* been released for XP Embedded. It is available in the build for Windows Embedded Standard 2009. The WES 2009 version is installable both during setup or post-setup via an MSI. This workaround described below for XP Embedded is only for testing purposes, we recommend that you upgrade to WES 2009 if your device requires .Net Framework 3.5. I apologize...

I am writing this from sunny South Africa where I am combining some business with my vacation. It is almost 2pm here and the Marketing Department of Microsoft South Africa in Johannesburg is buzzing (they kindly lent me a desk to work from for 9 days). I am scheduled to meet with some of the customers in South Africa who are currently using XP Embedded in their devices, such as Centurion Micro Electronics...

Recently, I was tasked with writing a build automation system for our test group, and while the build system is pretty robust at this point, I've run into quite a few challenges in getting the most critical part of it to work: The part that runs our build scripts. I thought I'd share some of the tips and tricks I've picked up along the way. The first thing I had to figure out was how to get each of...
