Few months ago, I started a project I wanted to build for years: getting my hands dirty designing and building the necessary equipment to push IT automation and Industrial Engineering cross feedings.
So I started to build a rack of servers in the basement.
My constraints were:
And here’s the result:
Building this rack, I learned:
What I suggest to improve this story:
Now that my basement is heated, I can start to focus on workloads’ industrialization.
Hey, nice build! Can you provide a list of the components (Brand and model) you used in your build along with an approximate costing please? I'm thinking of building my own set-up but I'm not sure what I should be getting or what are the ideal products.
Looks like a nice little project! It came out beautifully! 7 servers isn't too bad for a home computer rack. I agree though, cloud computing is a must in this day and age. It can save so much bandwidth space. I wish I could make my own computer server, but I really lack the skills to do so. What do recommend for purchasing a computer server rack?
Nice Article! Also looking into doing this. I just need more "gusto" behind my server and that much RAM is what I need. I, along with Ed, would love to see a build list with an approximate cost. I already have a few items but would like to see other builds and find pros cons.
But really great article!
Nice looking rack I too would like to see the specifications and material needed to build a rack this nice. Great job.
