Apologies for the delay - I have been trying to pull together a complete list of answers which is taking time.

1. How does Softricity fit into the Longhorn Virtualization story
This is an evolving strategy between System Center, Terminal Services, Viridian and Softricity. Here is a recent presentation http://www.microsoft.com/emea/itsshowtime/sessionh.aspx?videoid=490. Head 59mins to hear about Softgrid from Softricity and TS.
Softgrid is complimentary to Terminal Services. Softgrid can be used to run applications on the desktop (solving deployment complexity) or through terminal services.

2. How many CPUs can IIS 7.0 effectively use?
IIS doesn’t make CPU scheduling decisions as it relies on the OS for this. As a result,  the issue is how many CPUs can Longhorn effectively use. That is limited only by the SKU. (I think I need to dig further on this one)

3. When will we see performance stats for IIS7.0
We are expecting good news - but not ready to share anything yet.

4. Does the IIS7.0 go-live license also cover WAS?
Probably...speak to your AE about specifics.

5. Will Powershell be available through Windows Update?
There are no plans currently to do this.

6. Which Microsoft Applications will include Powershell commandlets in the future?
Exchange Server 2007, System Center Operations Manager 2007, System Center Data Protection Manager V2, and System Center Virtual Machine Manager also leverage Windows PowerShell to improve administrator control, efficiency, and productivity.

7. Does the Longhorn Task Scheduler work across a farm of servers?
You can not distribute Tasks across machines. However you could use something like WS-Management to start and stop services on different machines using a CMD script or powershell.

8. What versions of Longhorn Server will there be?
With Beta 3 we have:

  • Windows Server 2008 Beta 3 Standard
  • Windows Server 2008 Beta 3 Standard 32-bit
  • Windows Server 2008 Beta 3 Enterprise
  • Windows Server 2008 Beta 3 Enterprise 32-bit
  • Windows Server 2008 Beta 3 Datacenter
  • Windows Server 2008 Beta 3 Datacenter 32-bit
  • Windows Web Server 2008 Beta 3
  • Windows Web Server 2008 Beta 3 32-bit
  • Windows Server 2008 Beta 3 for Itanium-based Systems
  • 9. Enhancements around password settings in Active Directory?
    This should help http://msmvps.com/blogs/ulfbsimonweidner/archive/2007/03/12/windows-server-quot-longhorn-quot-granular-password-settings.aspx
