The Sharepoint technologies were launched more than 5 years ago when the first version of this great product, called Sharepoint Portal Server 2001, appeared in the market.  Since then this product has evolved and reinvented to accommodate customer needs.  The first version included a type of "workflow" to approve documents before publish them, and that functionality was very common in many applications developed with that version.  After the first version, the next one was Sharepoint Portal Sever 2003 and with it, a lot of customer adopted the product because of its simplicity and robust object model that allow corporate customer to develop complete sites and customize them to cover all their collaboration needs.  Some customer even adopted SPS2003 to build their public site, but the product was not ready to expose of its functionality to the www.  Customer who insist in using this version for  public sites faced a lot of problems and complicated configuration. 

After listening to the customer feedback, Microsoft decided to launch the new version of this great technology, Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007 and with it, a complete set of new functionality that includes new document libraries, document workflow (based on Windows Workflow Foundation), new content management capabilities(that replace Content Management Server), business intelligence, Excel Services and Forms Server among many other new characteristics.  What is very important to mention here is that all this functionality can be exposed to the www in a very easy way.

Customers, colleagues and friends are constantly asking me about public sites that are using Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007 and there are many, but there are some of them that I like the most because of the great functionality developed with the new tools and the great layout that can give you an example of how far can you go with this great technology. 6. Flight Simulator Insider;  Official site of this popular game, made completely with MOSS2007.
