This morning, I attended the media launch of Office 2007, Vista and Exchange.
It was nice to see many familiar faces and familiar names in attendance. I can understand why all the folks I was chatting to had to run out. They had stories to post.I'm started to see press coverage appearing online following this mornings event
This was the first launch in the world, due to our timezone, and the big event will happen in New York overnight
To support the launch, there's a new site aptly named Ready for a New Day. Steve Ballmer's Business Value launch keynote will be streamed live. There are heaps of videos, testimonals, reports and showcases to explore.
Anyways, Business customers, Vista, Office and Exhange is ready for you
Further to my earlier post on the Australian Broadband situation, seems like Telstra CEO Sol Trujillo agrees
Broadband is a disgrace but don't blame us: Telstra Telstra CEO Sol Trujillo said today he agrees with media mogul Rupert Murdoch that Australia's access to high-speed broadband is a disgrace.

So, that begs the bigger questions - who is responsible and who should fix it?
NSW to roll out free WiFi service
The NSW government will offer free wireless broadband throughout Sydney CBD and other major centres by early 2008.
I particularily like the comments from the two big telcos
An Optus spokeswoman welcomed the Government's proposal, and said Optus was potentially interested in being part of the project. "Optus congratulates the New South Wales Government on its innovative plans for free wireless access in major CBD areas across Sydney, and other major metropolitan centres. "Optus looks forward to seeing more details of the plans and to participating in the expression of interest process." Telstra, on the other hand, was far more cautious, but admitted that it was yet to see the details of the proposal. "There's no such thing as a free lunch anymore so it will be interesting to see how it is proposed to be paid for," said a Telstra spokesman. Both Optus and Telstra offer paid-for wireless broadband plans, and the Government's proposed free service would compete with these.

Roll on 2008!

Just when travelers thought they had run out of things to complain about at the airport, their fading laptops and cellphones have signaled yet another problem: a shortage of power outlets.
MY COMMENT: I remember someone was going to start a wiki of all the power outlets at airports. I wonder what happened to that? To download the Times Reader, click here.

Today, I was interviewed by Freya Purnell, who edits a publication called Consumer Directions for SOCAP Australia, the Society of Consumer Affairs Professionals. Freya is doing a story on blogging - how consumers can use blogs to complain about companies, products and services, and on the other side of the coin, how companies can use blogging proactively to communicate and engage with their customers.
Now, I had never heard of SOCAP, so I went poking around on their website and found out about SOCAP
SOCAP Australia - The Network for Consumer Professionals SOCAP Australia is a not-for-profit association for professionals who are in some way responsible for creating and maintaining customer loyalty. SOCAP Australia was established in 1991. Membership is open to all professionals who are in some way responsible for creating and maintaining customer loyalty. Our current membership profile includes operational personnel, management and policy makers in the private and public sectors and across all industries who share a vision of building sustainable relationships with consumers based on trust, fairness and transparency. I can see how blogging could be a good thing for SOCAP members.
But what is Consumer Directions? Is is a magazine? A journal? More poking around on the website reveals:
It is SOCAP's e-mail newsletter packed with all the latest on customer issues including the latest CRM trends, management issues, emerging technologies, data analysis and application, compliance and self-regulation, SOCAP events and much more.
Ahh - it's a e-mail newsletter member benefit
Looking forward to seeing the article. I wonder if it will be online for non members ? and if it isn't online, should I complain?

My brothers & sister in EMEA have been busy. They have launched an curious application called UniveRSS.
UniveRSS is a 3D RSS feed reader for Windows Vista. It leverages the Windows Presentation Foundation and provides a stunning way of visualizing RSS feeds and their content. It introduces a full-screen 3D universe where galaxies represent the folders of your RSS feed directory, and the stars are represented by the spinning cubes that hold the feed information. Size and position of the feed cubes indicate how many unread items they contain.
It installs as a click-once application, which is a nice touch.
Give it a try - it's quite an interesting way to look at your feed universe.
