Well, I finally decided to take the plunge and upgrade my day-to-day work machine to Windows Vista. I've run a number of builds from Beta 1 on as dual-boot OSes, or on secondary machines, but this is my first leap to full-time Vista use.

As expected, upgrading from Windows XP takes a bit longer than doing a clean install of Vista. But it was pretty well automated, once I'd resolved some of the upgrade compatibility issues that the Vista setup program identified.

So far, things seem to be working as expected. Probably still a few quirks to work out from the upgrade, since the setup program warned me in advance about some programs with compatibility issues, but I'm able to get on the web, get my email, connect to LiveMeeting (pretty critical for doing my Web Wednesday and FAQ Friday webcasts this week), etc., so looking good so far (knock wood).

I can hear you saying "no fair, how come you get RC2 and we can't?" Well, you can. RC2 is now up on MSDN Subscriber Downloads, so if you're a subscriber, you can go get it now! And if you're not a subscriber, this is another reason to consider becoming one.
