  • Wednesday, January 21, 2009 7:00 PM: Capital DotNetNuke User Group - Over the last few years, with the adoption of AJAX and RIA frameworks, JavaScript has taken on added importance in the development of web applications. jQuery is one of the leading JavaScript frameworks and greatly simplifies JavaScript development. Microsoft’s recent announcement about adopting jQuery as a standard part of the ASP.Net platform prompted the DotNetNuke team to make the commitment to improve jQuery support within the platform. In this presentation, we will provide a brief overview of jQuery and look at how we can leverage it in DotNetNuke to improve user interactions. We’ll look at the jQuery support offered in DotNetNuke 5.0 and how we can take advantage of these features in our module and DotNetNuke widget development.

  • Thursday, January 22, 2009 6:30 PM: Building and Implementing REST services using WCF and LINQ, Kevin Isreal Ironworks Consulting - With the release of the .Net 3.5 framework and Visual Studio 2008, building REST services has never been easier for the .Net developer. But what exactly is REST? Why would we use it, and where does it fit within an architecture that is service oriented? This presentation will introduce REST concepts and patterns, dive into an architectural discussion centered around ROA and SOA and will following up with building a REST service using WCF and LINQ. We will then code a client to consume the service. You will walk away from this presentation with a better understanding of REST, why it will work in many scenarios within any size company as well as how to build and expose a rest service.

  • Tuesday, January 27, 2009 7:00 PM: Caparea.Net - Introduction to F# - Matthew Podwysocki, Microsoft - You may have noticed a lot of talk lately around functional programming. As we start seeing more and more cores added to our systems, our traditional ways of dealing with concurrency are no longer as effective. Instead, we need to focus on managing our side effects for which functional programming is well suited, as it emphasizes the lack of state and side effect free functions. Microsoft has recently announced the inclusion of F# into Visual Studio 2010, which is a multi-purpose language with roots in functional programming and OCaml. Come learn about functional programming and F# and ways it can help you write more concise and rich applications.
