You are invited to take part in one or more beta exams for Visual Studio 2010 and the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.

If you pass one of the beta exams, the exam credit will be added to your transcript and you will not need to take the exam in its released form. The 71-xxx identifier is used for registering for beta versions of MCP exams, when the exam is released in its final form the 70-xxx identifier is used for registration.
By participating in beta exams, you have the opportunity to provide the Microsoft Certification program with feedback about exam content, which is integral to development of exams in their released version. We depend on the contributions of experienced IT professionals and developers as we continually improve exam content and maintain the value of Microsoft certifications. The following exams are a part of this beta offering.

  • Thanks a million Gerry!!!

It took me quite a while due to slow prometric site but i could register for exams in april!

    Thnaks again!

  • @ Gerry (O'Brien):

in a previous post**, you mentioned that these beta exams are free with Beta codes.  I see you have posted the Beta codes in *this* post.

Sorry to bother you ~~ please confirm that the above codes are for the "FREE" exams.

    Thank you.

    Gerry (Lowry)

  • Yea, I also had to be very patient with the Prometric site, it takes minutes to load, but I eventually managed to register for all exams.

  • Gerry,

These are indeed for the free beta exams.  No beta exam from Microsoft has a cost associated with it.

    Gerry

  • The Prometric site is evil. You gave some wrong exam codes in your post (table with beta codes). I also managed to register for exams. Thanks Gerry!

  • Kamil, can you be more specific.

These codes are the correct ones because I am the one who creates them and sends them to Prometric.

If these codes do not work, I need to know about it ASAP.  Others are registering fine.

    Gerry

  • I can't seem to find these exams on prometric's site, could someone walk me through finding them?  I chose my country (US) and state (NY), then the partner (Microsoft), then the only exam listed were the older ones (.NET 3.5 and lower).

Anyone able to give me a little assistance here?  Thanks in advance.

  • Steve,

Make sure you are looking for 71-xxx and not 70-xxx.

"No beta exam from Microsoft has a cost associated with it."

Thank you, Gerry ~~ historical note:  in Canada, the Win95 exam was US$50 but the Beta was only US$35.

    Gerry (Lowry)

  • But that was Win95!   :-)

    Gerry

  • The prometric site keeps giving me general errors when I enter the code. I've tried it as a promo code and voucher number.

It is also going very very slow, like 5 minutes between page loads.

  • It took me about an hour, and about 10 different times of going through the entire process only to have it fail after I press the 'commit registration' button, but I finally registered for 1 exam.

  • Please keep in mind that their site is likely being inundated with requests.

Have some patience, and continue trying.

    Thanks

    Gerry

  • Hey Gerry,

I was wondering, if the 518 and 519 exams are open, what would be the pre-requisites for taking those.

If I took and passed those exams without the required .Net 4.0 credentials. Would I have the Pro level credential?

  • Hey Gerald,

There are no prerequisistes for an exam, other than knowledge of course.

You can take exams in any order you want.  Only when you have met all the requirements for the certification will you be awarded the credential.  In other words. you could take 519 first, then take the necessary TS exams later.  You would not receive the MCPD certification until you have passed all four exams.

    Gerry
