New laws introduced by the NSW Government to crack down on paedophiles lurking on the internet was welcomed this month (December 2007) by Microsoft’s Vice President of Trustworthy Computing, Scott Charney in a meeting with the NSW Minister for Police, David Campbell.

The new laws will require convicted child sex offenders to register active email addresses, chat room names, and computer IP addresses, with police, enabling law enforcement agencies to monitor their internet activities. These new offences would also carry tough penalties if breached. The meeting also focused on new technologies to assist frontline policing.
