As a consequence of decisions made by Parliaments across Australia, Sunday October 5 is officially the start of Daylight Saving Time. On that day at 2am all those States and Territories participating in Daylight Saving (New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory) will turn their clocks forward by one hour. The move to a standard Daylight Saving start will have implications for computers running Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Outlook and other Microsoft, third party and custom applications. These changes could have a significant impact on a business' performance if not dealt with proactively. It is important for businesses to prepare for Daylight Saving Time as early as possible by planning and testing computer code changes.

Microsoft Australia has released a document which details the nature and impact of the Daylight Saving changes and a planning guide to assist businesses.

The Australia 2008 Daylight Saving Planning guide is available from Daylight Saving Guide Australia 2008.

The Guide incorporates lessons learned from the various transitions to Daylight Saving Time which have been experienced in Australia over the past three years.

Daylight Saving will end for all States and Territories at 2am on Sunday 5 April 2009.
