This week Channel Nine’s A Current Affair (ACA) broadcast a story that centres on a particularly virulent phone scam that has been exploiting consumer trust in high profile brands – including Microsoft – to cheat individuals out of hundreds of dollars. For our part, we have been working with the National Fraud Taskforce, Australian Communications and Media Authority and law enforcement agencies to address this issue, as well as issue numerous public warnings.

Our advice continues to be that anyone who receives such a call should bear in mind that Microsoft does not cold call consumers nor pass contact details onto third parties to do so. If in doubt, hang-up.
