Navigation List Builder
Module: SmartList Builder
Why this feature is cool!
Navigation List Builder extends the functionality of the Navigation Lists letting a customer include exactly the data that they want, whether it be from any table in Microsoft Dynamics GP or any 3rd party product, as well as external SQL tables and views!
The Navigation Lists will retrieve only the information selected speeding up the list performance.
Users can customize their lists in the following ways:
What does it look like?
Navigation: Under the Microsoft Dynamics GP menu > Tools > SmartList Builder > Navigation List Builder
An example list built using Navigation List Builder
Wow, I've been waiting for this for a long time ago.
The Navigation Lists are a cool feature too.
Thanks.
Fantastic! Let us know if you need any additional information regarding the new Navigation List Builder Functionality for GP 2010. Thanks, Ben
Hi, I have created 2 new lists, both I've set to use SALES as the Navigation Pane. It just seems to ignor that however and puts all new lists created into FINANCIAL Navigation Pane. Is this a bug with the Beta version?
Cheers,
Irene
Hi Irene,
This is a known issue with NLB in the Beta release. It should be fixed when GP 2010 officially releases. Thank you!

Hi,
Is NLB a separate install? I installed SLB, but NLB is not available in my menu.
thx,
Doug
Hi Doug,
No, Navigation List Builder is inlcuded in the same install as SmartList Builder. You'll find the options for NLB in GP 2010 (not in GP 10)under the GP button > Tools > SmartList Builder. You should see an entry here for Navigation List Builder.
Thanks Andy. I thought I heard it was in DGP 10. I guess I'd better download and install 2010.
thx!
Can an action be configured that invokes an executable a field from the list as an argument (i.e. notepad.exe 'CustomerId')? I've seen how to launch an executable, which is great, but I don't see where I can add the argument to the call.
Thanks..
Seth
Hi Seth,
I checked with our support team on this and here is what they had to say:
There isn’t a way to do this in NLB. The calling of a file in NLB requires that the file name they are trying to open be stored in a GP field. So, if they can get the whole call to work at Start – Run and then can get that same call put into the field, it might work, but not something we test or support.
The only other thing may be is if they write their own Procedure to do the call and then use the “Execute Procedure” option to call their custom procedure that does it for them.
Thanks for the comment! Take care,
