As I sit warm and toasty in my family room watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV, I'm reminded of all the things I have to be thankful for this year.
I'm thankful for my beautiful wife. I'm thankful for my talented daughter who left IBM to take a job at that company with the high-flying stock that starts with a G.
I'm thankful for a wonderful career as a physician, broadcaster, CIO/CMIO, and entrepreneur. I'm thankful to be associated with one (actually #1 this year in PwC's annual CEO survey) of the world's most respected companies. I'm thankful to be surrounded by a team of people who are passionate about technology and what it can do for the healthcare industry. I'm grateful for the brilliant engineers and software developers who are turning their attention and talents to solutions that will improve patient care and make it fun again to practice medicine. I appreciate the computer manufacturers who are cracking the code on devices that offer the data input options and mobility my colleagues need. I'm thankful for the politicians and government officials who are sponsoring bills and leading committees to stimulate the adoption of IT in American healthcare. I just hope they don't screw it up.
I'm thankful for the many friends I've made and colleagues I've met in my travels around the world. I'm thankful to anybody visiting this virtual little spot on the Net who is working to make the world a better place. Happy Thanksgiving!
