IMG_2548The tree is up.  The gifts are wrapped (mostly).  And I’m ready for the Holidays to begin.  I hope that each and every one of you, our HealthBlog readers and Health Tech Today viewers, is looking forward to the Holidays as well.

This is a great time of year to take stock of our blessings and to surround ourselves with family and friends.  That is certainly what the Crounse family plans to do in coming weeks.  As such, this is the one time of year that I take a break from the international travel, blogging, speaking, video production and other responsibilities associated with my position at Microsoft.

During the rest of this month, we’ll be bringing you some of my favorite Health Tech Today segments from this season and last.  Then, on January 4th, we’ll present a new batch of programs for your weekly enjoyment.  Having just come from the studio, I’m really excited about the new shows in our line-up.  The topics and guests are truly outstanding.  More on that in coming weeks.

In the meantime, please enjoy the following:

This week (starting Tuesday) we revisit Text for Baby, a cell phone texting service that is reducing infant mortality rates and helping new moms provide better care for their infants.  Timely, proactive educational tips keep moms connected and informed about every stage of their baby’s development and offer useful suggestions to help baby thrive.

Next week, we’ll re-explore the Cell Phone Microscope.  Professor Daniel Fletcher of UC Berkeley shows us how a cell phone can turn into a usable field microscope.  It can take images of blood cells, bacteria or parasites and transmit them to far-away medical centers for diagnosis, helping detect disease outbreaks in poverty-stricken regions of the world.

Finally, on December 27th as we head into the New Year, we’ll air the program that kicked off the latest season of Health Tech Today, our interview with Todd Park, the CTO of the US Department of Health and Human Services.  He takes us on a tour of a new government web site that is helping people find information and pricing about health insurance options.  If you haven’t seen it, it’s a segment you won’t want to miss.

So, enjoy our selected Holiday programs, and be sure to join us for a new batch of compelling, weekly videos starting January 4th.

Thank you for your loyal support of HealthBlog and Health Tech Today.  From all of us at Microsoft, I wish you a very joyous Holiday Season.
