"A CMS is a web application or software used for content management. CMS facilitates the organization, control, and publication of a large body of documents and other content, such as images and multimedia resources. A CMS often facilitates the collaborative creation of documents. A web content management system is a content management system with additional features to ease the tasks required to publish web content to web sites." - Wikipedia

We are in meetings with various parts of the CRM team; marketing, support, and apps. The selection of one CMS for all the parts is not a trival process. Everyone has their special tools, most created in house, for how they accomplish the CMS tasks. But no one has a tool that meets all the different work function teams' need.

I don't know if it even possible to create a CMS that is all things to all people. The apps team is all about the guide documentation being available in many, many languages. And doing a good job of creating and propping the material in these many languages, is not easy and can be very costly.

As I listen to this group talk however, I am increasingly confident that a good solution will be created/found. One of the reasons I think this is true is that the right people are in the meeting, senior enough to have some juice, and unlike years ago, these senior people are technically qualified to consider the impacts of the the system that we will select.

  • Hey Jim  I know of a document management product which works enterprise wide to take care of all workflow and version control etc etc right down to the document level.  It understands the needs and houses inbuilt viewers for over 250 different file formats including all the major CAD applications. In fact i challenge you to find anything an organisation would need automated for its content and documentatin that it wont do.  It allows groups to collaborate over its project and documentation in real time regardless of location or number of servers locally, nationally and globally.  It is works very nicely to expand the functionality of  MS SharePoint and SAP etc etc.  Ok so I sell this product but would love you to take a look at it to see if it doesnt do all you think a system couldnt do all in one solution.
