With the release of Unity 4.2 yesterday, Windows 8 and Windows Phone developers have another fantastic option to build AAA quality 3d- games leveraging the C# skills they already have. With this update, developers using either the free version of Unity or Unity Pro (a $1500 license) can publish their creations to Windows 8 and Windows Phone.
And to kick off this new pathway to becoming a published (and hopefully profitable!) Windows Store or Windows Phone Store developer, Microsoft and Unity are co-sponsoring a contest offering over $100,000 in prizes for new or existing high-quality games targeting either (or both) platforms.
All contest submissions must be made by September, 30, 2013, but note that the application does not need to be published in the Windows Phone or Windows Phone Store by that date to be eligible.
