I just uploaded the code for the Microsoft IT Team Site Life Cycle Management tool. Bill Baer worked overtime to get me the code on this one. Thanks Bill!
If you're concerned about sites being unused, taking up disk space and interfering with search results, then this is the management tool for you. It does the notifications based on your configuration, and these notifications are not to all sites, just to the sites that are not used. When used in conjunction with the site delete capture (which it uses) it captures deletes that are manual and those that are automated.
I hope to demo this tool and the MSIT Site Delete Capture tool during the Governance session on Friday. I fly out tonight on a red eye to Orlando, so I can quickly acclimate and enjoy myself before the festivities begin.
The big announcements for me at TechEd US are this tool and the Governance TechNet landing page feature articles, both of which will be featured during the Governance session on friday at TechEd.
There are a few cool things to look for at TechEd that I had my hands in....
1. Governance Checklist - a must have deployment checklist tool with governance models based on content featured in the articles going live in the next few days. This cool checklist will be available at the booth and at the Governance session. I think you'll like this. A soft copy of this cool checklist will be on the landing page.
2. Governance and Best Practices Poster by Mindsharp - A compilation of Mindsharp's Governance and Deployment best practices which have incorporated a few tips of my own. In good partner fashion we've printed 1000 copies (first come first served) that will be available at the SharePoint Server booth. If you're not at TechEd you can register on their site to get a bundle of MOSS 2007 posters.
3. Upgrade & Migration Planning and Resources CD (WSS 3.0 and SharePoint Server 2007) - We'll have about 2000 copies, Shane Young and I will have these at the Upgrade session we're going to co-present after that we'll have the remainder at the booth. These are hot off the press and available for the first time. It also includes a bunch of very recent content on CMS 2002 migration to SharePoint Server 2007. These will be available at WPC as well. Most of the content on this CD is navigable from the TechNet Upgrade and Migration resource center.
4. Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Technical Resource DVD - I believe these are in the bags. I did the beta 2 version of this DVD. It has a lot of the upgrade resources on it including case studies, documentation, and most of all a MOSS VPC! This VPC is loaded with all up MOSS enterprise, Visual Studio, SharePoint Designer and the full Office Enterprise client including Groove 2007.
Beyond these items watch for these sessions... (Don't go to part 1, the Planning for Deployment basics unless you need 200 level content or are new.)

I've been busy this week with a new project called LCMv2. If you remember, Joel Oleson and Bill Bear
