This is a SharePoint blog, so let me give you my top 10 reasons why a SharePoint Administrator would want to upgrade their SQL environment at RTM. (I say RTM since the SharePoint team plans to support SQL 2008 at it's RTM release.) I also look at this list and think it's not a bad list for any application that uses SQL for it's database. Look for performance, manageability, and cost savings.
If you don't know what these things are, you should check out the SQL 2008 site.

"Reporting Services in SharePoint Mode (report builder rocks!) - easy reporting solutions built to leverage SharePoint mode with more flexibility and with ease."
Can someone from the SQL Server or SharePoint team send this to the TFS team so they can support this mode. :)
I had a couple of people ask me if the 25%-35% was 25%-35% smaller or 25%-35% of the total size. My limited tests have shown that it's 25%-25% of the total size. I test it with a 120 MB database. The compressed backup size was around 20 MB. This was the Central Admin Content site, so it will be a little different than a usual Content DB. I plan on doing some more testing and posting the results to my blog.

Todd, our experience is that the blobs don't compress much, so it's 25-35% compression with 30% speed increase. So a 100GB database would be 65-75GB after compression.
Will Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 and SharePoint (MOSS 2007 SP1) all play nice together or will there be additional hotfixes needed for some/all of the above? I know about the newly released MOSS 2007 SP1 combo, but what about the other players in this game? I've built a VM of Windows Server 2008 RTM, but haven't installed any flavor of SQL Server or MOSS on it because I'm waiting on SQL 2008 support by MOSS 2007.
