Microsoft Consulting Services have started the development of a personal healthcare solution for the government funded,
Assisted Living Innovation Platform (ALIP).
The project will create an online health solution for consumers and is built on
Microsoft’s Azure
and
HealthVault
services. The project aims to promote online care solutions using Microsoft’s cloud platform through a series of pilots across the UK, working with government partners such as Kent County Council and the London Borough of Newham.
The
Assisted Living Innovation Platform (ALIP)
is a government funded program looking to accelerate the availability and widespread use of home based care and wellbeing solutions. The project targets users with acute health conditions such as dementia and diabetes but also helps develop preventative care services for a broader audience, aligning fully with government policy on personal independence, personalised care and reducing the cost of delivering key public services.
The project team is tasked with developing solutions that can appeal to a broad market and ensure technology is used to promote independence for those with acute health problems and their carers. The project will build on the successful ALIP Demonstrator delivered by MCS in FY09, extending this from a pure demonstration tool to an end-to-end solution with the consortium partners.
The ALIP project will provide an early success for Microsoft in demonstrating the value of Azure as the primary development and services platform for Government customers in the UK. It is unique in that the project requires the use of both Microsoft’s consumer cloud platform and the emerging offerings in the private Government cloud space. The project will promote Microsoft’s Software + Services solutions and act as a major pathfinder to test joint government and consumer services.
“This is a pivotal initiative for Microsoft,” said
Nigel Tilley
(Territory Services Executive). “It will develop a platform of services that could see mass adoption in both government funded and private purchase personalised care services that are based on the Microsoft Azure and HealthVault solutions.”
