Here is a list of some of my favorite great new features of the update.

Does that mean we will also be able to communicate via bluetooth to other phones or devices with RFCOMM/SPP? Would be nice to use a WP7 phone as display / controller for DIY projects ...

Frank Rizzo! Who? FRANK RIZZO! I come down and start work tomorrow! :) To your question, it takes a great deal of work to get a new runtime onto the Phone. Silverlight 5 just announced it's beta today, so I don't think mixing those development timelines would have been the right thing to do for the release schedule of Mango.
