For me, one of the highlights of Scott Guthrie’s keynote at MIX10 was eBay and Cynergy Systems talking about their use of the Silverlight ‘Out of Browser Trusted Application’ feature, delivering a great user experience to make listing your items a snap.

What makes this app doubly impressive is how quickly Cynergy and eBay were able to iterate together through prototypes and to finished beta using Expression Blend and SketchFlow.

You can try the app yourself at the eBay garden.

Here’s a quick walkthrough in screenshots:

The Simple Lister installs onto your PC direct from the eBay garden website. If you don’t have Silverlight 4 you’ll be prompted to install on your PC or Mac at this point:

Once installed, you can now start the app from your desktop, a shortcut or quicklaunch area. If eBay updates the app this update will automatically be applied on launching.

Many sellers are listing commodity items like DVDs or books whose details can be extracted from product catalogs. On opening the app you have several options for identifying the product:

  • name
  • UPC or ISBN code
  • Scan the bar code using your Webcam

If you use a search term, the app filters possible results as you type.

Once the correct item is selected you can add more details for condition etc.

At this point you can list straight away or choose other defaulted items to add specific details.

The whole process can take under a minute from starting the app to a listed item.

You can also use the app to check on your listing status.
