I feel the same way Metro UI would be the main reason for Windows 8 failure and the whole episode of windows vista would be repeated once again :(

To the developers and team behind Windows 8 what on the earth did you think why would a desktop or a laptop user need Metro UI

I personally think computer, laptops, notebooks, etc should be kept different from mobile, tablets, etc

re: Preparing for the Windows 8 Opportunity

I feel the same.

Microsoft is on best way to lost a lot of corporate customers.

The Metro Jail is wrong way for this kind of users.

re: Preparing for the Windows 8 Opportunity

I'm already being asked by corporate customers to support alternative platforms for my software as they see Windows 8 as an extreme risk due to metro. These are the same kinds of customers that are still considering rolling out Windows 7 and in a couple of cases were about to start doing it but have stopped to review Apple and Linux solutions instead (we're talking 30,000+ users in both cases - I've never seen customers with that many machines even consider non MS desktop solutions before so you've really riled them), but they are literally panicked about 8 and see it as a major risk area.

I really wouldn't mind a Win8 tablet but the primary place I use a computer is a desktop, either at home, at work or at client sites they're always desktops. I carry a laptop, but even that isn't suited to the new UI so I'm also feeling uncertain and found myself checking out competitive IDE's and platforms.

I guess after Vista Microsoft is unable to sustain another major platform failure and that's what everyone is feeling; every non-web developer I've spoken to has been on edge about the survival of Microsoft if this goes badly. Even web developers are checking out alternative platforms.

I've always supported and liked Microsoft, but everything about this new tranche of products is risky for me and others to adopt.

But, you can bet that you will like what is shared there. And even if you don't go, you'll still have access to the content. I understand that it's expensive, as it comes out of my travel budget too. The positive to going is that I can interact directly (f2f) with the product team, and that's what I recommend to you to consider. Otherwise, I'd stay home and learn remotely. Either way, I expect good news coming from the event.

Do you really expect people to fork out several thousand dollars (conference registration, airfare, hotel, etc.) to come to BUILD with ONLY this level of information? The deadline for early pricing is August 1. Do you really mean to tell me there cannot or will not be any other info, even session titles, tracks, etc. before August 1? After MIX11's serious lack of focus, a lot of people are going want more info before they register.

Can't argue that at all. I agree that it's not what I want from a browser company.

But, I think we've come a LOOOOONG ways in IE9. We in the field are pushing the IE engineering team, and I think they have truly responded to the feedback from customers. They hear it from us evangelists that are standing in front of you - because it's hard to face developers if we come with a bad product.

From my viewpoint of working with the IE team, we are not trying to make a separate set of standards. If anything, I'd say we're more committed than any other browser company. Would love to see your examples of how we're acting badly in IE9 or IE10 (click on the email link and lets talk directly). I'd be glad to forward your examples and feedback, since they are working on IE10 now.

I promise, these guys are committed to being responsible internet citizens. We really do want a one markup game for web developers, and we want to be the best browser on Windows for our consumers.
