As I mentioned in my last post, I've been doing more woodworking lately. A large part of the enjoyment for me is the discussions that I have with my dad. What tools to buy, how to tweak plans, how to finish a particular project...it's rare that a couple of days go by where I'm not on the phone with dad at least once.
Dad has been doing woodworking for longer than I've been alive, so he's a good sounding board for me. He is also married and both he and his wife drink Folgers coffee. So, often his advice includes an item that I don't normally have a supply of...pantyhose, emery boards, coffee cans (and just yesterday, the lids off of coffee cans).
Thinking about some projects I have planned for this weekend, it dawned on me that I might want to use some pantyhose (to help buff some wood...pantyhose can bring a pretty nice shine up on a waxed project). As I was thinking about this, I commented to a coworker that I needed to get a girlfriend and went on to explain my (admittedly somewhat selfish) reasons...the procurement of items that I don't normally have available.
Well, it turns out, based on a highly scientific and widespread survey (of two people), that on average today's woman would be more likely not to have the needed supplies. Based on both respondents of the impromptu survey I would get only an emery board...and that only half the time.
All this talk about family values that I hear everywhere these days...and I find out that a girlfriend probably wouldn't even be able to help in finishing supplies.
