Many of you will know that we host the Microsoft Pharmaceutical Deployment Users Group, a group of IT professionals that meet on the first Tuesday of every month. We’ve had some great topics over the last 8 months (or so) that we’ve been doing this – and we’re looking forward to more!
We are particularly excited about this months meeting – focused on Cloud Computing in Life Sciences – but we’ve had to change the time and location in order to accommodate schedules of certain of the speakers. We’re moving it to June 8th (instead of June 1st) and it will be held at the Hilton in Woodbridge, NJ (right across the street from the Microsoft offices). Processing large dataset and complex algorithms is a challenging and resource intensive process. These types of processes have been traditionally resolved by using very expensive Parallel and distributed systems. Now with the rise of Cloud computing and its advantages, we are finding ways to port the solutions for these processes to the inexpensive cloud.

Microsoft’s platform gives a great balance between reach and rich. See what the graphics card can do to assist in the challenges around collaboration with other scientists and clinicians at distance and over time. Technologies such as Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), SilverLight (Cross Platform) and pure DirectX will be demonstrated and discussed. If you look at information in a visual way then this is the session for you. When combined with the planetary scale of compute and storage of Azure, you have an environment that can help turn the battle for new novel medicines and therapies to the side of the scientist.
In an industry where data and process collaboration needs cross traditional corporate firewall and into the Cloud, how can we do it securely and reliably in a scalable way?

· Demonstrate solution built using Microsoft Cloud Platform services such as Windows Azure, SQL Azure, and Federated authentication/authorization services that bridge internal corporate identity services with external partner’s services.
