I tried to install Exchange 2007 Edge Server on three Windows 2003 x64 R2 with the latest windows updates, also, I have configured the server with below settings:
1. Configure DNS suffix for edge server
2. Install .net framework x64 & ADAM
3. Install .net framework security hotfix KB926776
4. Install Power Shell 1.0 International English
5. MMC 3.0 (Windows 2003 R2 built-in)
Before I launch Exchange setup wizard, I configure NIC on the server where the Exchange 2007 Edge server role will be installed.
As you know, because Edge server has two NICs and locates in a DMZ, so, I unbind Client for Microsoft Networks & File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks on external NIC, this is for security purpose, you know.
Final, I launch Exchange 2007 Set wizard from local DVD-ROM, during Exchange BPA, I was told the below error messages:
Summary: 1 item(s). 0 succeeded, 1 failed.
Elapsed time: 00:07:28
Edge Transport Server Role Prerequisites
Failed
Error:
There was a problem accessing the registry on this computer. This may happen if the Remote Registry service is not running; it may also indicate a network problem.
Elapsed Time: 00:07:28
At the beginning, I very confuse with this message, remote registry service is definitely running on local computer.
Finally, I found that this is because I remove Client for Microsoft Networks & File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks on external NIC, after I restore to default setting, Exchange setup continues.
After I successfully installed Edge server, I removed Client for Microsoft Networks & File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks on external NIC again, but this will be NOT having impact to Edge server.
