A recent customer wanting to migrate off the mainframe wanted to know what they could do to continue to allow them to read tapes they get from their customers in IBM 3480 and 3490 formats into a Windows system that they would build to replace their mainframe.

Happened to find that one of our folks was working on a project where they had to solve that problem for a school system a few years ago, and he recommended trying Fujitsu's M2488 tape drive. Apparently he was able to hook it up to his Windows boxes, and it worked with no hitches.
