The programming.reddit.com crowd in particular seems quite willing to upvote content from Microsoft employees when it's worthy (yes, including blogs.msdn.com). Some examples:

http://programming.reddit.com/info/zd0h/comments

http://programming.reddit.com/info/176h6/comments

http://programming.reddit.com/info/1v1p7/comments

http://programming.reddit.com/info/z6ua/comments

If you click `details' you'll see that most of the votes are positive. I think Wes's posts are especially popular because he focuses on teaching concepts. He occasionally will mention a Microsoft product, but it's typically only to provide context.

Now, your post (which was _not_ removed[1]) was actually quite well received. The person who called your post spam was downmodded into oblivion. Almost twice as many voters went up than down, which is pretty impressive for a post that was more backstory than technical geekery.

1. http://programming.reddit.com/info/1v5um/comments

Something tells me this post won't be quite as well received ...
