How to recycle old MSDN CDs (@Internet Cafe in Paris)

If you are MSDN (or TechNet Plus) subscriber you might have thought about how you manage all CDs you've received. I myself have so many CDs since I am subscribing both MSDN Enterprise and TechNet Plus. The number of CDs I receive every month is more than 10 CDs and will be over 120 CDs at the end of the year and I haven't found out the best way to recycle old CDs that I would probably never use in the future. I was in Paris (France) last week and found an Internet Cafe where MSDN CDs were used as window decoration. They were quite old MSDN CDs (some of them were released in 1997), you can see the old MSDN logo on the CD. When I wrote about this in Japanese Blog site (http://blogs.users.gr.jp/michiko/) one of customer added a comment “1999 MSDN CD has been working as full time scarecrow“. (thanks for the info >iks-san)

  • That's totally neat! Regardless of the CDs used, I'd love something like that to decorate my apartment.
  • Shucks, folks, the boss did cringe that we all do this with any MS CDs, 'cause we have switched all the mochines here at the DEN over to Open Source OSes!
Yeah, Debian install via a Knoppix Live CDrom! http://knopper.net/knoppix

Even better is how we drape a MS CD over a beer glass,
and toast in the nukker, fer 'bout 40 seconds! Makes shiny coasters!

'nother way, is to MOD the mochines, by overlapping the MS OS CDs, to fill up the side winder on the cases! Aktually, takes 'bout a hundert to do the clear pane on a rack end, or an outhouse door!
