My friend Cathy politely asked me the other day why no one was making comments on my blog anymore.

Since I had been accepting comments daily, I respectfully pointed out that they were not actually paying attention -- there were comments aplenty!

She respectfully pointed out that my blog's home page had plenty of [0] comments notations on it. And I'll be damned if she wasn't right!

I did at that point respectfully point out if she clicked on the links (which was likely possible for her) then she would see the comments.

She politely suggested what I could do at that point....

Anyone who knew me or more to the point her would know that my use of the words "politely" or "respectfully" above is utter crap -- we have a vigorously dynamic sort of relaionship! :-)

Anyway, be sure to ignore the

at the bottom of the post. Close your eyes, trust in your feelings, and use the force to guide you to where people talk about either how on track or on crack I am1.

1 - I have to give credit to Chris Bryant, a Development Lead on the Access team, for first introducing this delightful scoring system, initially applied to describing a spec provided by Program Management. It is useful in so many areas. :-)

  • Well, I'm a faithful reader, but I don't comment as much as I thought I would because reading what you've written has shown me I only know a fraction of the fraction that I thought I knew :P

Here's a question though: Why is it that on many fresh XP machines (as far as I can tell), no Unicode fonts seem to be working? For instance, in Messenger, I get varying reports that my IM name has ??? or sometimes squares. Then, sometimes, I'm told they can see the hanja when I type a message, but not in other places in MSN Messenger. Is there a guide to figure out how to fix this?
  • By default, XP is missing support for complex script and EA languages, the two checkboxes in the middle tab of Regional Options -- which means both fonts and shaping behavior are missing from a lot of these languages.

Thannks for the kind words. :-)
  • Tracked down what causes the comment count to be off -- moderation. So I either get to bow to spam or not get updated comment counts in the aggregate view. :-(
  • Hmm, so why doesn't XP ship with Complex Script and EA language support? Are they going to change this for Longhorn?
  • Does not seem related to what we were talking about, does it? :-)

I will talk about this in a future post....
