Have you heard about the innovative climate change research underway at Microsoft Research? One of the projects, entitled SEAMONSTER, is a joint effort between researchers at Microsoft and the University of Alaska. Sponsored by a $900,000 grant from NASA, SEAMONSTER aims to develop better tools for monitoring harsh environments while furthering our understanding of what could be a vital piece of the global-warming puzzle—how the world’s polar environments are responding to a warming planet. The project leverages networked geospatial technology and is returning critical data that will help scientists better understand how melting ice will affect marine ecosystems.
