Bing Maps today launched a great new application for National Geographic’s Global Action Atlas. The Global Action Atlas allows users to view and learn more about areas around the world that may be suffering from environmental, health or other issues. Users can scan Bing Maps and share knowledge on behalf of community-based projects, volunteer or even donate to these causes.
The new application is located in the Bing Maps application library (look for the “More Apps” tab). The application has several check boxes for efforts of interest including: Conservation, Humanitarian Affairs, Cultures, Exploration, Climate Change and Energy. From helping protect wildlife migrations in the Greater Yellowstone Park region to protecting Arctic polar bears from the threats of global warming, there are a range of efforts and topics to learn about through the Atlas. Donations made to projects and organizations on the Atlas go through the GlobalGiving Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 organization.
