Recently the Uptime Institute awarded Microsoft with its Green Enterprise IT Award for IT initiatives in our Chicago datacenter. The Chicago facility uses containers to house and run servers. This design has led to greater efficiencies and a reduction of carbon emissions, waste and water. The use of water-side economization is helping to cool the facility without requiring the high levels of electricity typically needed to power large chillers.
The Uptime Institute is an organization that is focused on providing education and thought leadership for the enterprise data center industry and for data center professionals. The Green Enterprise IT Awards are the Uptime Institute's highest honor. We applaud the work from our Global Foundation Services team which is tasked with designing, building and operating Microsoft's datacenters.
